United Rentals, Inc. (URI) is a Technology stock trading at $1052.02 (as of 2026-08-25), with a market capitalization of $65.91B and a trailing P/E of 26.3. Figures are sourced from first-party U.S. SEC EDGAR filings and market data.
United Rentals, Inc. operates through subsidiaries as an equipment rental business with two segments: General Rentals and Specialty. It rents general construction and industrial equipment, aerial work platforms, and related tools, as well as specialty products such as trench safety, power and HVAC equipment, fluid solutions, and mobile storage and modular office space, serving customers including construction and industrial companies, manufacturers, utilities, municipalities, homeowners, and government entities.
United Rentals leases construction and industrial equipment (excavators, skid-steers, aerial lifts, power tools) to contractors, utilities, municipalities, and homeowners. General Rentals is the larger pillar at roughly 56% of the top line, while the smaller Specialty segment now accounts for about 30% and has been the main growth engine.
A fixed, debt-financed fleet is spread across hundreds of local branches; each additional rental day drops largely to operating income once the depreciation and interest load is covered, so utilization is the fulcrum of the model.
