Peapack-Gladstone provides private banking and commercial lending to affluent individuals and small businesses, earning income from the spread between loan rates and deposit costs plus wealth management fees. The franchise pairs sticky relationship deposits with a private wealth arm, so earnings depend on credit quality and how cheaply the bank can fund its loan book.
Profit is the gap between commercial loan yields and the cost of relationship deposits, with wealth-management fees on client balance sheets providing a fee cushion that is less sensitive to rate cycles; deposit composition is the single most important variable for net interest margin.
Business quality (Solid): Solid. A focused private-bank model with 26% operating margin, 23% revenue growth, and a 7% ROE signals a well-run niche franchise, but the small size and local concentration limit scalability.
Valuation: At 15× earnings, PGC trades 20% above the Banking average (13×).
