Understand Barnes & Noble Education, Inc.: how it makes money

Barnes & Noble Education operates campus and K-12 bookstores, selling and renting print and digital textbooks and publisher hosted courseware, and it also earns revenue by providing students access to course materials through programs like First Day and Textbooks.com.

The profit engine is monetizing required course materials around the school year, through a combination of retail textbook sales and rentals and higher-value campus access programs (First Day, First Day Complete), with smaller contributions from wholesale distribution and digital student solutions.
