Valuation: At 41× earnings, SXI trades 23% above the Machinery average (34×). Note: one-time items can distort reported P/E.

Bull case

  • Backlog coverage for the next year: Remaining Performance Obligations Realizable Within One Year is 0.27 USD_B, larger than the reported quarterly revenue of 0.2 USD_B.
  • Order momentum is positive: The Book-to-Bill Ratio is 1.05 and Electronics Book-to-Bill Ratio is 1.14, suggesting orders are running ahead of revenue at the aggregate and Electronics level.

Bear case

  • Revenue can be sensitive to order flow: Key operating indicators are orders, orders intake, and remaining performance obligations. If Orders Intake or Book-to-Bill weakens, revenue conversion could slow.
  • High profitability leaves less room for execution issues: The quarter shows a high gross margin (40.9%) and operating margin (40.4%). Any disruption in fulfillment, mix, or costs could pressure these margins quickly.
